I think the 1.2 no longer applies, and I'm not sure we want the version numbers in the logos anymore. I think the logo is due for an update, and I like what you've got. +1

I agree with John about the version numbers, probably doesn't make sense in the logo anymore. The only tweak I would have is to use a bit less bevel.

Our webmaster is also thinking of migrating back to the white, black and red theme we used before. What do you think?

Metallic panel
I kind of like the metallic panel. It seems more associated with the underpinnings, like the girders of a skyscraper.
